Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 review at Photography Blog

Posted by Steve on September 24th, 2006

panasonic lumix fz50 reviewPhotography Blog has posted a review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50, a dSLR like digital camera with a 12x optical zoom and 10.2 megapixels resolution. With optical image stabilization and ISO speeds of up to 1600, the FZ50 should be well equipped to make use of the long zoom without the use of a tripod.

The reviewer recommends the Panasonic DMC-FZ50 and writes:
“The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 is simply a joy to use, offering a DSLR-like experience whilst avoiding some of the problems that DSLRs have (principally dust on the sensor and the lack of live view via the LCD screen). It’s a stylish, straight-forward, advanced camera with that 12x Leica zoom lens as its main attraction. […] If you’re really interested in the massive focal range on offer and you don’t want a “proper” DSLR, then the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 should still find a place on your shopping list, despite that persistent issue of noise.”

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 test at Digital Camera Info

Posted by Steve on September 24th, 2006

panasonic lumix dmc fx50 reviewThe Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 has been tested by Digital Camera Info. The Lumix DMC-FX50 is an ultra compact point and shoot camera with 7.2 megapixels resolution and a very large 3 inch display. Interesting features include the 3.6 times optical zoom lens, supported by image stabilization. On top of that the FX50’s lens allows wide angle shots (28mm, 35mm equivalent). Supporting ISO speeds of up to 3200, the Panasonic FX50 should be well equipped for low light or fast action shooting.

The review results:
“[…] The chunk of plastic and metal is less than an inch thick and slides into pockets and purses for easy transportation. […] Better still, it is easy to use. […] Everything about the FX50 isn’t this good though. Its images are so noisy that they look like painted pictures with messy brush strokes. The auto focus system doesn’t handle low light well at all, so pictures are bound to be blurry despite the image stabilization and wide manual ISO range.”

Pentax Optio W10 review at imaging resource

Posted by Steve on September 24th, 2006

pentax optio w10 reviewA review of the Pentax Optio W10 is available at imaging resource. The Optio W10 is a compact 6 megapixel camera, equipped with a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5 inch LCD. The W10 is an ideal outdoor camera, waterproof up to a depth of 1.5 metres and also able withstand dust, snow and sand.

The review verdict:
“[…] I grew enamored with this model and what it was capable of doing underwater without the weight of a cumbersome housing. Pictures I shot at the lake were some of my favorites of the summer, offering good color and sharpness […]. If you’re looking to take the plunge with a waterproof camera, the Pentax Optio W10 will serve. Its marginal print quality just keeps it from earning a Dave’s Pick, however, given the very soft output even at the lowest ISO settings.”

Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi review at The Digital Picture

Posted by Steve on September 24th, 2006

canon eos 400d reviewThe Digital Picture has posted a review of the Canon EOS 400D, also known as the Canon Rebel XTi. The Canon EOS 400D features 10.1 megapixels resolution, a 2.5 inch display and a continuous shooting mode of 3 frames per second with up to 27 images in JPEG format or 10 images in RAW format.

Here are some of the review results:
“With each iteration of the Digital Rebel family, Canon raises the bar on image quality and camera features while lowering the introductory price. This iteration brings us the Canon EOS 400D Digital Rebel XTi, an entry level-priced DSLR with professional level image quality and capabilities. The EOS Digital Rebel XTi […] is easy enough for a beginner to use but powerful enough to get the job done for many professionals.”

Sony Cybershot DSC-T30 review at Digital Camera Info

Posted by Steve on September 10th, 2006

sony cybershot dsc t30 reviewA review of the Sony Cybershot T30 is now available at Digital Camera Info. The Cybershot T30 in an ultra compact digital camera with 7.2 megapixel resolution, a 3x optical zoom and a very large 3 inch LCD screen. Optical image stabilization as well as high ISO sensitivity allow you to shoot fast moving action and in low light conditions, while these camera features reduce the risk of blurred images.

The review impression:
“The 7.2-megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T30 offers consumers a lot of style, some imaging capabilities, and little overall value. […] The image stabilization is effective in keeping shakes out of the 3x optical zoom, the 3-inch LCD screen is large and has good resolution […] The pictures from the Sony T30 look good and the movies garnered from the Pro card look good, but the quality still doesn’t justify the enormous price tag.”

Nikon Coolpix L4 review at imaging resource

Posted by Steve on September 10th, 2006

nikon coolpix l4 reviewImaging resource have published a review of the Nikon Coolpix L4, an easy to use point and shoot camera with 4 megapixels resolution, a 3 times optical zoom lens and a 2″ LCD.

The review conclusion:
“The Nikon Coolpix L4 is a mixed bag with enough good qualities to warrant a modest recommendation, but with the qualification that you only expect 4×6 images out of it, 5×7 max. If that’s all you ever print, you should be reasonably happy with the L4 in daylight or close-range flash conditions indoors.”

The Olympus Stylus 720 SW is an ultra compact all weather digital camera with 7.1 megapixels resolution, a 3x optical zoom and a large 2.5 inch LCD display. It is also shock proof and offers useful features, such as image stabilization.

The review conclusion:
“In terms of features and picture quality the Olympus MJU 720SW is a pretty standard digital camera. The fact that it is waterproof to a depth of 3m and shockproof from a height of 1.5m makes it stand out from the rest. If these features are important to you then I cannot think of many drawbacks of this camera and it more or less has the field to itself.”

“With its impressive 28mm-200mm lens, there’s a lot to like about the R5, and anyone prepared to work with the camera could eek out some high quality shots, although consumers looking for an easy-peasy, point’n’shooter might be frustrated with the camera’s poor low light performance.”

Samsung NV3 camera test at Trusted Reviews

Posted by Steve on September 7th, 2006

samsung NV3 reviewTrusted Reviews have tested the Samsung NV3 digital camera. The Samsung NV3 is not only a stylish and very compact 7 megapixel camera with a 3 times zoom and a 2.5 inch LCD, but also a media player for music and video files.

The review verdict:
“The Samsung NV3 is an odd little camera, but a good one. It is beautifully designed, extremely well made, handles comfortably and performs well photographically, although the “bonus extras” of MP3 and MPEG4 playback, and especially the text viewer, are really nothing special. However, at well under £200 it can afford a few quirks, and it’s certainly pretty enough to get away with it.”

Kodak EasyShare P712 review at Steve’s Digicams

Posted by Steve on September 7th, 2006

kodak easyshare p712 reviewSteve’s Digicams have reviewed the Kodak EasyShare P712, a 12x ultra zoom camera with 7.1 megapixels resolution and a 2.5 inch LCD. Apart from manual exposure controls, the Kodak P712 is also equipped with image stabilization, a vital feature for a camera with such a long zoom.

The review results:
“Kodak’s EasyShare P712 Zoom is a mixed bag. While it offers loads of appealing features, the outdoor mediocre image quality really turned us away from this model. However, it does capture nice portrait images and is a speedy performer. None the less, with an MSRP of US$499 it’s a bit too expensive.”
